Foreign Exchange - Forex

The foreign exchange (currency or forex or FX) market exists wherever one currency is traded for another It is by far the largest financial market in the world, and includes trading between large banks, central banks, currency speculators, multinational corporations, governments, and other financial markets and institutions The average daily trade in the global forex markets currently exceeds US$ 2–25 trillion Retail traders (individuals) are a small fraction of this market and may only participate indirectly through brokers or banks.

What Is Forex Trading? Is It Right For Me?

What Is Forex Trading? Is It Right For Me?

Foreign Currency Exchange (FOREX) Trading is an exhilarating way to trade foreign currency in a market that runs 24 hours a day, five days a week. The Forex market is also the most volatile financial market in the world. It doesn’t have a physical location, trading floor or central exchange like the NYSE or futures market does, but instead it functions and operates amid a global network of banks with trades taking place over an electronic network or by phone. With its nearly nonstop currency market where Forex brokers trade in the currencies of the world, profits are made or lost depending on how various nations’ currencies increase or decrease relative to each other. Current, real time events can influence currency prices and thus Forex trading brokers typically keep track of worldwide events on a minute by minute, hour by hour basis each day.

Even though Forex trading is volatile, there are many things to like about it. Since the Forex Trading System is open 24 hours a day, the majority of each week, it allows for ample time and numerous trading opportunities around the clock. This means Forex Brokers are not under as much pressure to initiate a trade as quickly as if they were playing the stock market. Also, since world government currencies are very liquid, they are much easier to trade than other securities. As with the stock and option markets, profits can be made either way, whether in a rising or falling market. And since Foreign Currency Trading is volatile by nature, it can afford even more profit opportunities than other markets.

Of course a person’s Forex Trading Strategy should be to profit from the movement in currency values. As with any financial market, the more times a person “gets it right”, the more money they will make. In Forex or FX Trading, currency pairs are always used. FX Traders will try to determine, for instance, if the U.S. Dollar will rise in value over the British Pound, or vice versa. This is called a Currency Pair. Another trader may have some Forex information that informs them that the Euro will increase in value against the Dollar. They would then pay X amount of Dollars for X amount of Euros. As time went on and the Euro did strengthen against the Dollar then they could sell the Euros for even more Dollars than they had invested originally. Foreign Currency Exchange is essentially the simultaneous buying of one currency and the selling of another.

There is no doubt that the Forex Currency Trading System is unique. It has its own set of rules and opportunities. It can be as fast moving or slow as a trader would like. A big advantage is the number of hours in a week that a trader can place and execute trades. It can be volatile just as with any market. If a person studies their options and does their homework, a great deal of profit making opportunities exists in Foreign Currency Trading. As with any financial markets, a good Forex Trading Strategy will go a long way in determining what kind of profits you will make.

The Foreign Currency Exchange Market - What Is It All About?

Forex 101 - Foreign Currency Exchange Trading

Nearly everyone enjoys making money. More often than not, the more money we make the better we feel and the more confidence we have. These are good things as long as making money doesn’t get too emotional. If investing is treated like a business and most of the emotion is left behind, many people can do well with their investments.

Forex Trading, also known as FX Trading is another way you can make money in a trading environment. Everyone has heard of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) or the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), each featuring either stock trading or options and futures trading. Forex Trading involves the buying and selling of currencies instead of stocks, bonds, options or futures. It is also different in that there is no physical floor or exchange area like there is in New York or Chicago where the above mentioned exchanges are located. The Foreign Exchange Market (FOREX) can only be accessed by phone or by electronic network. The advantage of not having a central location, but instead having an electronic network, is that the Forex can operate 24 hours a day. In fact, it is open for trading all day and night during work days, roughly 5 days a week.

Since the Spot Forex Market is the largest financial market in the world, it is also the most liquid. This means it is easy to get in and out of a position whenever you want. The more liquid a market is, the easier it is to initiate and fulfill a transaction. Of course, the objective when trading in any market is to buy low and sell high. With Online Forex Trading, a person buys and sells the currencies of other nations. If one believes the U.S. Dollar will strengthen against the EURO, for instance, they can buy Dollars now and sell them later at a profit. Currencies are traded in currency pairs and each currency is represented by a 3 letter code. Therefore, a rate, which consists of a pair of currency codes, will end up being a 6 letter code. For instance, USD/GBP is considered a currency pair with each containing three letters for a total of 6 in a rate.

Your objective as a Forex trader is to make sure you can correctly identify the current trend in the currencies you are trading and to make sure you are buying a currency which is appreciating in value and selling a currency which is depreciating. Slightly different than stock trading, you will utilize special software programs which allow you to participate in Online Forex Trading. You can also participate in Forex Trading Education at many Forex Trading company websites, and some allow you to test your Forex Trading Strategy in a “practice mode” before you actually use your own money.

Forex or FX Currency Trading can be an exciting alternative to the stock, bond, option or precious metals markets. To some it is a simpler way to trade and profit. To others it is a welcome break from disappointing corporate news that can drive a stock down dramatically in seconds. Whatever your reasons, Forex Trading may be just the break you need from other investments you may be tiring of

Make Money Online

Wow! It’s already September, “Where did the year go?” Ok, the year isn’t over, but it’s getting there.

Anyway, the past couple of weeks have been very up and down. I have had car troubles (twice), birthday parties, etc. Our friend Mareike from Germany is visiting this month (came in on Monday), which is great, but has added to the craziness. Suffice it to say things have been really crazy. As you can imagine, I haven’t done my normal amount of online reading the last two-three weeks. Here are some of the Internet marketing/online business articles that I have read recently and thought you would enjoy:

Knowing When To Slow Down
This is such an important thing to remember. I almost always link to articles that I come across that emphasize this point.

Knowing When to Work Like a Dog and Go For Broke!
Wendy offers a nice counter point to the previous article by Dawud. Be sure to read all the way to the end of the post where Wendy reveals that she will be making a big announcement about a secret project she has been working on.

Creating A Quick HTML Sitemap To Increase Crawlability

That was it for this week’s Internet marketing tips from the web.

My Vegetarian Recipe Of The Day(Comment for more)

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks– Six Layer Dip

This is a slightly updated version of 7 layer dip from Food Network. It’s slightly more complicated but still pretty easy. My mother-in-law actually heats 7 Layer Dip in the oven to melt the cheese and serves it with rice as a tasty main dish. You could also layer these ingredients over chips and pop them in the oven to make tasty nachos.

Six Layer Dip

2 cloves garlic
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1(15-ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15-ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
2 teaspoons chili powder
2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 cups lowfat shredded Cheddar
2 ripe avocados, preferably Hass
1 jalapeno, stemmed, finely chopped, (with seeds for more heat)
2 cups chopped romaine lettuce
1 1/2 cups nonfat yogurt, preferably Greek
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, leaves and some stems, roughly chopped, plus more for garnish
3 ripe medium tomatoes, diced
5 scallions (white and green), thinly sliced
Baked tortilla chips, for dipping

On a cutting board, smash the garlic cloves, sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of the salt, and, with the flat side of a large knife, mash and smear the mixture to a coarse paste. Put the garlic, beans, chili powder, water, and olive oil in the bowl of a food processor and blend until smooth. Spread in the bottom of a 2 quart casserole or gratin dish, or in individual sized dishes, as desired.Scatter the cheese over the beans. Halve and seed the avocados, then mash with the jalapeno and another teaspoon of salt in a small bowl. Spread a layer of the avocado over the cheese, and then scatter the lettuce on top.

Mix the yogurt with the cilantro and then spread over the lettuce. Add a layer of tomatoes and finally scatter the scallions on top. Chill until ready to serve. Garnish with a few cilantro sprigs and serve with baked chips.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks–Baked Mini Egg Rolls

I’m a big egg roll fan. And I think they’re great for parties. Generally, you can make them ahead of time, freeze them and reheat them. They’re not too messy. They’re filling. What’s not to love? This recipe from Vegeterian Times is even baked, so they’re not too horrible for your diet.

Baked Mini Egg Rolls & Hot Mustard Sauce

  • 1 T. soy sauce

  • 1 t. rice vinegar

  • 1 t. cornstarch, plus some extra for dusting baking sheets

  • 1 cup shredded cabbage

  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 T. minced fresh ginger

  • 1/4 cup sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped

  • 1 cup frozen, shelled edamame, thawed

  • 2 T. finely chopped roasted peanuts

  • 1/2 t. dark sesame oil

  • 26 won ton skins

  • 1 large egg, slightly beaten

Whisk soy sauce, vinegar, and 1 t. cornstarch in bowl to blend; set aside.

Warm large nonstick skillet over med-high heat; coat with cooking spray. Add cabbage and carrots; cook, stirring, until cabbage is softened, 3-4 minutes. Add ingredients down to dark sesame oil, stirring just until heated, about 1 minute. Add cornstarch mixture; cook, stirring until thickened, about 1-2 minutes. Transfer to plate; cover, adn chill about 20 minutes to cool.

Place several won ton skins on work surface, with a corner of each facing you (in diamond shape). Brush top corner of each with egg. Put 1 T. filling in center of each; fold bottom corner, then both side corners over filling, and roll up. Place egg rolls on baking sheet dusted with cornstarch and cover loosely with plastic as you go.

Preheat oven to 425 F. Put second baking sheet in oven for 2 minutes. Remove, coat with cooking spray then quickly put egg rolls on it. Spray rolls and return to hot oven.

Bake 10 minutes, flip rolls and bake 10 minutes more, or until golden brown. Serve with mustard sauce (below).

Hot Mustard Sauce

  • 2 T. powdered yellow mustard

  • 1 T. water

  • 1 t. honey or rice syrup

  • 1 t. rice vinegar

Whisk all ingredients in bowl to blend. Transfer to dipping bowls.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks– Peanut Butter Brownie Cupcakess

Only have a few minutes to prepare something sweet for your Super Bowl party? This recipe from Food Network’s Paula Deen just takes five minutes and is delicious.

Peanut Butter Brownie Cupcakes

Peanut Butter Brownie Cupcakes Recipe courtesy Paula Deen
Show: Paula’s Home Cooking
Episode: Picnic in the Park

1 (18 1/2-ounce) package chewy fudge brownie mix (recommended: Duncan Hines)
1 (12-ounce) package peanut butter chips or 24 miniature peanut butter cups

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line 24 regular muffin cups with paper cupcake liners.

Prepare the brownie mix according to package directions for cake-like brownies. Fill the cups half full with brownie batter. Place about 1 tablespoon peanut butter chips in the center of the batter, or press 1 peanut butter cup into the batter in each muffin cup until the batter meets the top edge of the peanut butter cup.

Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until the cupcakes are set. When they can be handled safely, remove them from the muffin tins and let cool completely on wire racks. Store in an airtight container.

** If you have a few extra minutes, you could always make your own brownies, rather than using a mix.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks–Chili Blanco

Yes, I know, it’s another chili recipe. But can you really ever have too many chili recipes? And this one is Chili Blanco, or a white chili, and for some reason it’s much harder to find a vegetarian recipe for that kind of chili. And you can make this ahead and turn it into excellent nachos for you Super Bowl munching pleasure. Just put it on some tortilla chips with some diced tomatoes, cilantro, jalapenos and melted cheese and voila!— the perfect snack.

Chili Blanco

1 pound small navy beans, rinsed and drained
8 cups water
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 large yellow onions, coarsely chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
6 cups Imagine Not Chicken broth (or some other kind of vegetable broth or stock)
1 large bay leaf
1 4 oz. can green chilis, chopped

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 cup each: chopped green bell pepper, celery and julienne carrots
1 teaspoon each: cumin (or more, to taste) and fresh ground black pepper
1 cup grated jack cheese
1/2 cup cilantro, coarsely chopped

2 cups baked tortilla chips, coarsely crushed (you can leave this out if you’re making the chili for nachos)
5 green onions, sliced (white and green parts)
sour cream, optional

Place the beans in a large pot and cover with the 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let set, covered for 1 hour. Drain. Alternately, you can soak the beans overnight.

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. When hot, sauté the onions until golden. Add the garlic and sauté 1-2 minutes, until garlic is translucent, but not browned.

Combine the beans, onions, broth, and bay leaf in a 6 quart pot. Bring to a low simmer, cover and cook until tender. Stir in green chilies and mash with a potato masher OR cool the mixture and puree it briefly in a blender or food processor. You want it to remain chunky, so don’t puree it too much. Season to taste with salt. When the beans are tender, sauté the bell pepper, celery, carrots, cumin and black pepper until just cooked. Stir into the beans after mashing. Add cheese and cilantro, stirring to blend. Serve garnished with green onions, chips and sour cream, if desired.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks–Chicago-Style Pizza

If you’re rooting for Da Bears next weekend, then there’s no better dish for you to serve than a Chicago-style Pizza. And, since it’s pizza, you can put whatever toppings on it that you like. If you want to try something a bit different than this recipe, you can find a great recipe for a stuffed Chicago-style pizza on fellow-blogger Andrea’s site.

For just the basics, use this recipe and add whatever toppings you find appealing.

Chicago-style Pizza

1 (.25 ounce) envelope rapid rise yeast
2 cups lukewarm water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup cornmeal
5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/3 pound sliced mozzarella cheese

1 can pizza sauce (or make your own)

Topping suggestions: Peppers, onions, pineapple, olives, spinach, zucchini, soy meat substitute

3 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons olive oil

Place the water in a mixing bowl of a stand mixer. Sprinkle the yeast over the water, and let stand for 5 minutes to dissolve. Pour in the vegetable oil, olive oil, cornmeal and 3 cups of the flour. Mix with the beater for 10 minutes. Add the remaining flour, and switch from the beater to the dough hook. Mix for about 5 minutes. This can be done by hand, but the dough is very rich and moist. Pour the dough out onto a floured surface, and cover with a large bowl. Allow to rise until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch down the dough, and let rise again. This time won’t take as long.

Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F (245 degrees C).

Grease two 9 or 10 inch round cake pans. Divide the dough evenly between the two pans. Press the dough out so that it goes all the way up the sides of the pans. Lay the slices of mozzarella cheese onto the crusts like tile. Next put the pizza sauce over the mozzarella. This is the time to add your toppings. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top, and drizzle with olive oil.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, until the top is golden and gooey, and the crust a light golden brown.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks–Black Bean and Chocolate Chili

I’m not waiting for the Super Bowl to make this chili. I’m planning to make it for dinner this week. Chocolate in chili? Sound absurd? Not at all. It gives the chili a nice depth that vegetarian chili can sometimes lack. I’ve never used semi-sweet chocolate pieces, opting instead for cocoa. If you prefer using cocoa, you can always just add a little extra oil.

This recipe comes from one of my favorite cookbooks, Moosewood Restaurant Celebrates. My first vegetarian cookbook was Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant, and I’ve bought several other Moosewood cookbooks since then. I highly recommend any of them. I like that they’re a bit chatty about the recipes. I also like that this particular cookbook arranges things by event. So, if you need a recipe for a birthday breakfast in bed, you can flip to that section and have a whole menu laid out for you.

Anyway, enough about the cookbook and on to the recipe.

Black Bean and Chocolate Chili

2 T. vegetable oil
1 1/2 c. chopped onions
4 garlic cloves, minced or pressed
1 celery stalk, thinly sliced
1 small fresh chile, minced
1 T. ground cumin
2 t. dried oregano
1/2 t. ground cinnamon
pinch of ground cloves (I’m leaving those out, not being a huge clove fan)
1 t. ground coriander
1/2 t. ground black pepper
1/2 t. salt (I’ll probably use more like 1 t.)
1 1/2 c. chopped bell peppers
3 c. cooked or canned black beans (2- 14.5 oz. cans, rinsed and drained)
2 c. undrained crushed canned tomatoes (one 14.5 oz. can)
1 T. fresh lemon juice
1 T. soy sauce
1 1/2 oz semi-sweet chocolate, broken into small pieces (or you could use about a 1/4 c. chocolate chips)
chopped scallions

In a saucepan, warm the oil on medium heat. Add the onions ad garlic and saute until the onions become translucent, about 10 minutes. Add the celery and chile, cover, and cook for about 5 minutes.

Reduce the heat and stir in the spices and bell peppers. Cover and cook for 5 minutes, until the bell peppers begin to soften. Stir occasionally to keep the spices from burning. If needed, add a little juice from the canned tomatoes.

Add the black beans, tomatoes, lemon juice and soy sauce. Bring the chili to a simmer, cover, and cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Stir in the chocolate. When it is melted, adjust the salt, black pepper and lemon juice to taste.

Garnish with chopped scallions.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks–Spicy Sour Cream Dip

Tired of the same old french onion dip? This dip from the Food Network will add a little heat to your party.

Spicy Sour Cream Dip

1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 chipotle chile in adobo, chopped
1 teaspoon abobo sauce
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1/4 teaspoon salt

In a bowl, combine all the ingredients. Adjust the seasoning, to taste. Refrigerate, covered, until ready to serve. Serve with tortilla chips or veggies.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks–“Chicken” Parmesan Heroes

Do you need more than snacks to satisfy your hunger on Super Bowl Sunday? These eggplant heros be good.) This recipe is super easy, as it’s really more assembling than cooking.

Chicken Parmesan Hero Sandwich

2 jars marinara sauce
2 packages prepared soy chicken breaded patties (approx. 8 patties)
4 (12-inch-long) loaves Italian bread, halved lengthwise
1 lb mozzarella, thinly sliced

Preheat oven to 400 F.

Microwave or heat soy chicken patties according to directions on the box. Cut in half.

Arrange bottom halves of bread loaves on a large baking sheet and tops on another large baking sheet, all with cut sides up. Spread 1/4 cup marinara on each top and bottom. Divide soy chicken patties between bottom halves. Top each (open-faced) sandwich with 1/4 cup marinara and one fourth of mozzarella.

Bake open-faced sandwiches in lower third of oven until cheese melts, about 3 minutes. When cheese begins to melt, put tops of loaves in upper third of oven and bake until edges are golden, 3 to 4 minutes (watch tops closely; they burn easily). Put tops on bottoms to make sandwiches, then slice into serving pieces.

Vegetarian Super Bowl Snacks–Potato Skins with Ricotta-Sundried Tomato Dip

This recipe comes from a great cookbook: The Golden Door Cookbook. The Golden Door Cookbook is based on foods served at the Golden Door Spa in southern California. The recipes are interesting and unique and delicious. BUT they tend to be more gourmet. By that I mean that they usually have extensive ingredient lists and aren’t always the simplest recipes to make. This recipe is an exception to that. While it does have a fairly long ingredient list, it is pretty simple to assemble. If you like, the dip could be prepared alone and served with potato chips or some other “dipper”.

Potato Skins with Ricotta-Sundried Tomato Dip

Dip

2 T. sliced, soaked dry-packed sundried tomatoes (these are the sundried tomatoes that come in a bag, rather than packed in oil— see note on soaking at bottom of recipe*)
1 T. reserved tomato soaking water
3/4 cup low-fat ricotta cheese
1 T. minced shallots
1 T. balsamic vinegar
1 t. dried basil
1/4 t. freshly ground pepper

In a food processor, combine the tomatoes, reserved soaking water, ricotta, shallots, vinegar, basil and pepper and process until smooth. Transfer to a bowl, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Let come to room temperature before serving.

*To rehydrate dry-packed sundried tomatoes, soak them in warm water to cover for 15 to 20 minutes. Drain and slice. Be sure to reserve 1 T. of the soaking water for the recipe.

Potato Skins

About 20 sprigs fresh rosemary
2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes
1 t. chili powder
1 t. ground cumin
1 t. paprika
1/2 t. celery salt
4 russet potatoes, scrubbed (a little over 2 1/2 lbs.)

Preheat the oven to 375 F. Spread the rosemary sprigs on a rimmed baking sheet.

In a small bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients, except the potatoes. Set aside.

Using a small, sharp knife, slice off a 1/4 inch thick slice from all four sides of each potato. (Save the peeled potatoes for another use.) Blot the cut sides of the potato skins dry with paper towels and arrange them, skin sides down, on the rosemary. Sprinkle the cut sides evenly with the spice mixture. Spray with vegetable oil spray, or brush with olive oil.

Bake for about 20 minutes, remove from the oven, and spray with the vegetable oil spray again (or brush again with olive oil). Return to the oven and continue baking for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden brown and beginning to puff. Serve with the dip.

Making Windows Xp Start 60% Faster, tutorial…

Making Windows Xp Start 60% Faster, tutorial…

Making Windows Xp Start 60% Faster, tutorial…

Whenever you start your computer, you are faced with a few moments of thumb twiddling while Windows XP boots and prompts you to log on. Although you should expect to wait for a few moments, sometimes Windows XP seems to boot rather slowly. In fact, you may notice that over a period of time the PC that used to roar to life seems a bit sluggish instead. Fortunately, you can perform several techniques that help Windows XP get the bootup speed you want. This chapter explores how to put these techniques to work.

Stopping Unneeded Startup Services

Along with the core operating system and programs that Windows XP runs when it starts, there is also a host of services involved. Many of these services are necessary for Windows XP to operate correctly. However, many of them are for features in Windows XP that you may not use at all. You can peruse the services and disable any service that you do not want to run. The fewer services that run, the more quickly Windows XP will boot.

Caution:
Exercise caution when stopping services. If you do not know what a service does or are unsure of the ramifications of stopping the service, leave it alone. Some services are critical to Windows XP’s operations, so make sure you understand what the service is before you disable it.

To reduce the number of services that start on bootup, you can access two different areas of Windows XP. The first is the System Configuration Utility. The Services tab shows you the services that start when the computer boots.

You can stop a service from starting by simply clearing the check box next to the service and clicking OK. However, before you do so, there is another way to disable services that you may prefer because the interface gives you more information about the service in question.

Open Control Panel/Administrative ToolsServices or else select Start/Run, type services.msc, and click OK. Either way, you see the Services console.

I prefer to use the Services console instead of the System Configuration Utility because it describes what the service does. Additionally, you can double-click a service and examine its properties.

Notice the Startup Type column in Figure 4-2. This information lists whether the service is automatic or manual. Manual services are only started in Windows XP when you start a process that requires the service. Some other process may require the service that has a “dependency” relationship with it; in this case, the dependency service will start, as well. Because these services do not start automatically when you boot Windows XP, you do not need to do anything with manual services.

However, all services listed as automatic start when Windows XP boots. These are the services that increase boot time. As I have mentioned, many of them are necessary and important, so you should not stop automatic services from booting unless you are sure of the ramifications. You can get this information by looking at the Description column. Here’s a quick look at common services you may want to live without:

Automatic Updates: This service enables Windows XP to check the Web automatically for updates. If you don’t want to use Automatic Updates, you can disable the service. You can always check for updates manually at the Windows Update Web site.

Computer Browser: If your computer is not on a network, you don’t need this service. If you are on a network, leave it alone.

DHCP Client: If you are not on a network, you do not need this service. If you are on a small workgroup, you can still increase boot time by configuring manual IP addresses (which I explore later in this chapter).

DNS Client: If you are not on a network, you do not need this service. If you are, leave it alone.

Error Reporting and Event Log: You don’t have to use these services but they can be very helpful, so I would leave them configured as automatic.

Fax: If you don’t use your computer for fax services, you can disable this one.

Help and Support: If you never use the Windows XP Help and Support Center (found on the Start menu), you can disable this service.

IMAPI CD-Burning COM: This service enables you to burn CDs on your computer. If you never burn CDs, you can disable the service.

Indexing Service: Your computer keeps an index of files but if you rarely search for files, the service is just a resource hog. You can stop it and turn the service to manual.

Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing: If you do not use these features, you can disable them.

Infrared Monitor: If you do not use infrared devices, you can disable this service.

Messenger: This service sends alert messages on a local area network (it is not the same as Windows Messenger). If you are not on a network, you can disable this service.

Print Spooler: If you do not do any printing from the computer, you can disable this service. If you print, make sure you leave it as automatic.

Remote Registry: This service allows remote users to modify the Registry on your computer. If you are not on a network, you can disable this service.

System Restore Service: This service allows you to use System Restore. If you have turned off System Restore anyway, you do not need to turn off the service. If you do, you turn off System Restore.

Themes: If you do not use themes, you can disable this service.

Windows Image Acquisition: If you do not use scanners or digital cameras, you can disable this service.

Wireless Zero Configuration: If do not use wireless networking devices, you can disable this service.

You may have a number of other automatic services, depending on software and other configurations on your computer. So it’s a good idea to look through the services and learn more about them. If you double-click a service, a Properties dialog box appears

Notice that on the General tab, you see a Startup Type drop-down menu. If you want to change an automatic service to manual, select Manual here and click OK. As a general rule, don’t disable a service unless you are sure you will never use it. However, manual configuration allows the service to be started when you find it necessary, thus speeding up your boot time.

However, before you change a service to manual, look at the Dependencies tab (see Figure 4-4). This tab shows you which other services depend upon the service you are considering changing.

Keep in mind that services are necessary for the vast functionality you get with Windows XP. Change only those services that you understand and do not use. How you use your Windows XP computer should be the best guide in terms of optional startup services.

making FIREFOX run at lightning speed, full speed firefox browser

follow these steps carefully...............

1. First in the URL bar, Type "about:config". This will bring up a list of commands and variables you can edit

2. The second step is to put "network.http.pipelining" in the filter and change the value to "true".

3. After that you will want to put "network.http.proxy.pipelining" in the filter.
Like the last one, make that value set to "true" also.

4. Next, locate "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" and change the value to some number higher, say 10,20 or even 30, it would make up to 10,20 or 30 requests at once.

5. The last step is to right click anywhere and select "New" then "Integer". Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and make its value "0". This will make the browser respond faster on the information of the websites it receives.

A HIDDEN FIREWALL THAT SLOWS YOUR DOWNLOAD

ONLY IF U HAVE WINDOWS XP

Go Start>Control Panel>select Switch to Classic view
then

Open up your “Network Connections”. Right click on your internet connection or LAN connection and select “Properties”.

->Select the “Advance” tab

If the “Internet Connection Firewall” is ticked then this might be the reason for slow downloads. Also it might be the reason for the status light to stay yellow, even though you have allowed your current firewall to allow your client to access the internet. Try it out and tell me if that was the problem, beacuse it was mine.

Sharing Files Between Windows XP and Mac OS X

Using an Ethernet connection and File Sharing
To share files on a Windows XP computer and a Mac OS X computer, you can enable File Sharing to create a common folder accessible on both computers.

On Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger and 10.3 Panther:
1- Click on System Preferences - Sharing
2- Make sure the Services tab is selected
3- Click to check Windows Sharing
4- Note your Mac's IP address at the bottom of the window

On Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar:
1- Click System Preferences - Accounts
2- Select the desired user's home folder
3- Click Edit User
4- Click to check Allow user to log in from Windows
5- Click OK

6- Click System Preferences - Sharing
7- Click to check Personal File Sharing
8- Click to check Windows File Sharing
9- Note your Mac's IP address at the bottom of the window (in the paragraph reading "Windows users can access your computer at (address).
To choose which Windows users can log in, open Accounts preferences and edit their user information."

On Windows XP:
1- Click on Start - Search
2- Click on Computers or people - A computer on the network
3- Enter the Mac's IP address that you noted above
4- Enter your OS X username and password

Set up a shared folder on XP:
1- Right-click on the folder to be shared
2- Click on Properties
3- Click on the Sharing tab
4- Click on Share this folder on the network (so the folder can be read by the Mac)
5- Click on Allow network users to change my files (so the folder can be written-to by the Mac)
6- Click on Apply
7- Click on OK

Access the shared XP folder from OS X:
1- Click on Finder - Go - Connect to Server
2- Click on the Server and PC to connect
3- Click on Connect
4- Enter your Mac username and password
5- Click on OK
6- Select the name of the shared folder to access
7- Click on OK
Your shared XP folder now appears on the Mac desktop, allowing you to copy files from XP or OS X to the folder and retrieve them on the other computer.

How to fix the slow file transfers problem in Vista

When moving from Windows XP to Vista, I noticed that file transfers were much slower. Fortunately, I kept my old operating system too, but that's not a solution - to use Windows XP every time you have to transfer large files from a partition to another. So... how do we fix this issue?

Since the cause of slow file operations in vista is Remote Differential Compression, we have to disable this feature. This is how to do it...

Press the Start Orb.
Open the Control Panel.
Go to the Programs and Programs and features applet.
Select Turn on or off Windows features in the left pane.
Here, uncheck Remote Differential Compression.

Now, it's done! File copy and move operations will be much faster.

How to uninstall a program in windows vista

To remove a software, just click on the Start orb, go to Control Panel and choose Uninstall a program. Here there’s a list with programs that you can uninstall, each containing information about the Publisher (who made the software), when was the software installed and the size of it. Click on the application you want to remove and select Uninstall.

What you should know when uninstalling a program

There are some things you should now before or after uninstalling a software:

For safety reasons, you should log off every user (except the administrator) on the computer before uninstalling a software
Some of the programs are not completely uninstalled and they can leave some traces behind. My suggestion is to find out where the remaining file are and erase them (usually in Program Files or Documents)
You can only uninstall a program from Control Panel if it was originally installed with a Windows compatible setup program. Otherwise, you would have to manually delete the files, folders and the shortcuts

Mind Hacks: Tips & Tools for Using Your Brain

Mind Hacks: Tips & Tools for Using Your Brain

The brain is a fearsomely complex information-processing environment–one that often eludes our ability to understand it. At any given time, the brain is collecting, filtering, and analyzing information and, in response, performing countless intricate processes, some of which are automatic, some voluntary, some conscious, and some unconscious.

Cognitive neuroscience is one of the ways we have to understand the workings of our minds. It’s the study of the brain biology behind our mental functions: a collection of methods–like brain scanning and computational modeling–combined with a way of looking at psychological phenomena and discovering where, why, and how the brain makes them happen. Want to know more? Mind Hacks is a collection of probes into the moment-by-moment works of the brain. Using cognitive neuroscience, these experiments, tricks, and tips related to vision, motor skills, attention, cognition, subliminal perception, and more throw light on how the human brain works. Each hack examines specific operations of the brain. By seeing how the brain responds, we pick up clues about the architecture and design of the brain, learning a little bit more about how the brain is put together. Mind Hacks begins your exploration of the mind with a look inside the brain itself, using hacks such as “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: Turn On and Off Bits of the Brain” and “Tour the Cortex and the Four Lobes.” Also among the 100 hacks in this book, you’ll find:

-Release Eye Fixations for Faster Reactions
-See Movement When All is Still
-Feel the Presence and Loss of Attention
-Detect Sounds on the Margins of Certainty
-Mold Your Body Schema
-Test Your Handedness
-See a Person in Moving Lights
-Make Events Understandable as Cause-and-Effect
-Boost Memory by Using Context
-Understand Detail and the Limits of Attention

Steven Johnson, author of “Mind Wide Open” writes in his foreword to the book, “These hacks amaze because they reveal the brain’s hidden logic; they shed light on the cheats and shortcuts and latent assumptions our brains make about the world.” If you want to know more about what’s going on in your head, then Mind Hacks is the key–let yourself play with the interface between you and the world.

Ed Husain - The Islamist

Amazon.com Review

A truly outstanding book that works on so many levels, a personal journey, a review of contemporary Islamic life in Britain, a historical reference, an assessment of Islamic politics and many more. Husain's personal journey into extreme Islamic politics is quite frightening simply because it seemed so rapid and easy and also that extremist politics does seem to dominate the thinking of the young Muslims that he mixes with. If the type of thinking that he describes is half as dominant as this book seems to suggest then as a country we have a lot to worry about and more horrors like the attacks on London in 2005 are inevitable.

Having said that, I left this book with a new respect for the type of Islam that Husain eventually came to and indeed a respect for the picture of The Prophet that he paints. Stripped of the political manoeuvrings he shows Islam can be a compassionate and caring faith and one that has so much good in it that make the recent behaviours done it it's name all the more distasteful.

This book has given me more to think about than anything else I have read in the last couple of years.

Book Description
A fascinating journey into the mind-bending world of prime numbers
Cicadas of the genus Magicicada appear once every 7, 13, or 17 years. Is it just a coincidence that these are all prime numbers? How do twin primes differ from cousin primes, and what on earth (or in the mind of a mathematician) could be sexy about prime numbers? What did Albert Wilansky find so fascinating about his brother-in-law’s phone number?
Mathematicians have been asking questions about prime numbers for more than twenty-five centuries, and every answer seems to generate a new rash of questions. In Prime Numbers: The Most Mysterious Figures in Math, you’ll meet the world’s most gifted mathematicians, from Pythagoras and Euclid to Fermat, Gauss, and Erd¿o¿s, and you’ll discover a host of unique insights and inventive conjectures that have both enlarged our understanding and deepened the mystique of prime numbers. This comprehensive, A-to-Z guide covers everything you ever wanted to know—and much more that you never suspected—about prime numbers, including:
* The unproven Riemann hypothesis and the power of the zeta function
* The “Primes is in P” algorithm
* The sieve of Eratosthenes of Cyrene
* Fermat and Fibonacci numbers
* The Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search
* And much, much more

How To Make Your Pc Work Faster

Here you can find useful tips you can do to make your pc work faster in a few minutes , just follow these tips and you will definitely have a much faster and more reliable PC!

Quote:
1. Wallpapers: They slow your whole system down, so if you're willing to compromise, have a basic plain one instead!
2. Minimizing: If you want to use several programs at the same time then minimize those you are not using. This helps reduce the overload on RAM.
3. Boot Faster: The 'starting Windows 9x , xp' message on startup can delay your booting for a couple of seconds. To get rid of this message go to c:\ and find the file Msdos.sys. Remove the Read-Only option. Next, open it in Notepad or any other text editor. Finally, go to the text 'Options' within the file and make the following changes: Add BootDelay=0. To make your booting even faster, set add Logo=0 to remove the Windows logo at startup.
4. Restart only Windows: When restarting your PC, hold down Shift to only restart Windows rather than the whole system which will only take a fraction of the time.
5. Turn Off Animations: Go to Display Settings from the Control Panel and switch to the Effects Tab. Now turn off Show Windows Content While Dragging and Smooth Edges on Screen Fonts. This tip is also helpful with Windows XP because of the various fade/scroll effects.
6. Resolutions: If you are willing to do anything for faster performance from your PC, then try lowering your display resolution. The lower it is, the faster your PC
7. Start Up Programs: Windows can be slowed down when programs run on start up. To eliminate this, check your Start up folder. You can access it from the start menu: Start, Programs, Start Up. Another way to eliminate programs from loading even before Windows actually starts is by doing the following: Click on Start, then Run. Type msconfig. It will take quite a long time for this program to load, but when you finally see it on your screen, explore the different tabs. They all have to do with how quickly your PC boots, so select what you want, and uncheck what you don't want!
8. Fonts: When Windows starts, it loads every single font in the Fonts folder. Therefore, the more fonts you have, the slower the booting process. To get rid of unwanted fonts, simply go to the Fonts folder under c:\windows and remove whatever you don't want. Fonts that have a red letter 'A' as their icon are system fonts, so don't delete them.

MAKE MOZILLA 10x TIMES FASTER

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit enter. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

> Crackin windows XP admin pswd, winxp installation flaw

you can easily change or wipe out your Administrator password for free during a Windows XP Repair. Here’s how with a step-by-step description of the initial Repair process included for newbie’s.
1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (it’s assumed here that your XP CD is bootable – as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD)
2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd Typically, it will be "Press any key to boot from cd"
3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.
4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now
5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.
6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair.
It should read something like "If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it"
Use the up and down arrow keys to select your XP installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.
7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.
8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically – you will see a progress bar stating "Your computer will reboot in 15 seconds"
9. During the reboot, do not make the mistake of "pressing any key" to boot from the CD again! Setup will resume automatically with the standard billboard screens and you will notice Installing Windows is highlighted.
10. Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen and when you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This is the security hole! A command console will now open up giving you the potential for wide access to your system.
11. At the prompt, type NUSRMGR.CPL and press Enter. Voila! You have just gained graphical access to your User Accounts in the Control Panel.
12. Now simply pick the account you need to change and remove or change your password as you prefer. If you want to log on without having to enter your new password, you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password. After you’ve made your changes close the windows, exit the command box and continue on with the Repair (have your Product key handy).
13. Once the Repair is done, you will be able to log on with your new password (or without a password if you chose not to use one or if you chose not to be asked for a password). Your programs and personalized settings should remain intact.
I tested the above on Windows XP Pro with and without SP1 and also used this method in a real situation where someone could not remember their password and it worked like a charm to fix the problem. This security hole allows access to more than just user accounts. You can also access the Registry and Policy Editor, for example. And its gui access with mouse control. Of course, a Product Key will be needed to continue with the Repair after making the changes, but for anyone intent on gaining access to your system, this would be no problem.
And in case you are wondering, NO, you cannot cancel install after making the changes and expect to logon with your new password.

Tips for searching on GOOGLE, Power of g00gle...

Some tips u will love...

P hrase your question in the form of an answer. So instead of typing, "What is the average rainfall in the Amazon basin?", you might get better results by typing "The average rainfall in the Amazon basin is."

§ T his is an old one, but very important: Put quotes around phrases that must be searched together. If you put quotes around "electric curtains," Google won't waste your time finding one set of Web pages containing the word "electric" and another set containing the word "curtains."

§ S imilarly, put a hyphen right before any word you want screened out. If you're looking up dolphins, for example, you'll have to wade through a million Miami Dolphins pages unless you search for "dolphins - Miami."

§ G oogle is a global White Pages and Yellow Pages. Search for "phonebook:home depot norwalk , ct," Google instantly produces the address and phone number of the Norwalk Home Depot. This works with names ("phonebook:robert jones las vegas, NV") as well as businesses.

§ D on't put any space after "phonebook." And in all of the following examples, don't type the quotes I'm showing you here.

§ Google is a package tracker. Type a FedEx or UPS package number (just the digits); when you click Search, Google offers a link to its tracking information.

§ Google is a calculator. Type in an equation ("32+2345*3-234=").

§ Google is a units-of-measurement converter. Type "teaspoons in a gallon," for example, or "centimeters in a foot."

§ G oogle is a stock ticker. Type in AAPL or MSFT, for example, to see a link to the current Apple or Microsoft stock price, graphs, financial news and so on.

§ Google is an atlas. Type in an area code, like 212, to see a Mapquest map of the area.

§ Google is Wal-Mart's computer. Type in a UPC bar code number, such as "036000250015," to see the description of the product you've just "scanned in." (Thanks to the Google Blog, h**p://google.blogspace.com , for this tip and the next couple.)

§ G oogle is an aviation buff. Type in a flight number like "United 22" for a link to a map of that flight's progress in the air. Or type in the tail number you see on an airplane for the full registration form for that plane.

§ G oogle is the Department of Motor Vehicles. Type in a VIN (vehicle identification number, which is etched onto a plate, usually on the door frame, of every car), like "JH4NA1157MT001832," to find out the car's year, make and model.

§ F or hours of rainy-day entertainment, visit h**p://labs.google.com . Here, you'll find links to new, half-finished Google experiments-like Google Voice, in which you call (650) 623-6706, speak the words you want to search for and then open your browser to view the results. Disclaimer: It wasn't working when I tried it. (Ditto a lot of these experiments.)

20 Things the average person doesn't know about XP, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. It boasts how long it can stay up. Go to the Command Prompt in the Accessories menu from the All Programs start button option, and then type 'systeminfo'. The computer will produce a lot of useful info, including the uptime. If you want to keep these, type 'systeminfo > info.txt'. This creates a file called info.txt you can look at later with Notepad. (Professional Edition only). 2. You can delete files immediately, without having them move to the Recycle Bin first. Go to the Start menu, select Run... and type 'gpedit.msc'; then select User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Windows Explorer and find the Do not move deleted files to the Recycle Bin setting. Set it. Poking around in gpedit will reveal a great many interface and system options, but take care -- some may stop your computer behaving as you wish. (Professional Edition only). An alternative is to press SHIFT-DEL. 3. You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using a right mouse click, and enter 'rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation' in the location field. Give the shortcut a name you like. That's it -- just double click on it and your computer will be locked. And if that's not easy enough, Windows key + L will do the same. 4. XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can make it show everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word 'hide' and remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and there will be the software and you can now uninstall it. 5. For those skilled in the art of DOS batch files, XP has a number of interesting new commands. These include 'eventcreate' and 'eventtriggers' for creating and watching system events, 'typeperf' for monitoring performance of various subsystems, and 'schtasks' for handling scheduled tasks. As usual, typing the command name followed by /? will give a list of options. 6. XP has IP version 6 support -- the next generation of IP. Unfortunately this is more than many ISPs have, so you problably can only experiment with this on your LAN. Type 'ipv6 install' into Run... (it's OK, it won't ruin your existing network setup) and then 'ipv6 /?' at the command line to find out more. If you don't know what IPv6 is, don't worry. 7. You can at last get rid of tasks on the computer from the command line by using 'taskkill /pid' and the task number, or just 'tskill' and the process number. Find that out by typing 'tasklist', which will also tell you a lot about what's going on in your system. (Professional Edition only) 8. XP will treat Zip files like folders, which is nice if you've got a fast machine. On slower machines, you can make XP leave zip files alone by typing 'regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll' at the command line. If you change your mind later, you can change things back by typing 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'. 9. XP has ClearType -- Microsoft's anti-aliasing font display technology -- but doesn't have it enabled by default. It's well worth trying, especially if you were there for DOS and all those years of staring at a screen have given you the eyes of an astigmatic bat. To enable ClearType, right click on the desktop, select Properties, Appearance, Effects, select ClearType from the second drop-down menu and enable the selection. Expect best results on laptop displays. If you want to use ClearType on the Welcome login screen as well, set the registry entry HKEY_USERS/.DEFAULT/Control Panel/Desktop/FontSmoothingType to 2. 10. You can use Remote Assistance to help a friend who's using network address translation (NAT) on a home network, but not automatically. Get your pal to email you a Remote Assistance invitation and edit the file. Under the RCTICKET attribute will be a NAT IP address, like 192.168.1.10. Replace this with your friend's real IP address -- they can find this out by going to www.whatismyip.com -- and get them to make sure that they've got port 3389 open on their firewall and forwarded to the errant computer. 11. You can run a program as a different user without logging out and back in again. Right click the icon, select Run As... and enter the user name and password you want to use. This only applies for that run. The trick is particularly useful if you need to have administrative permissions to install a program, which many require. Note that you can have some fun by running programs multiple times on the same system as different users, but this can have unforeseen effects. 12. Windows XP can be very insistent about you checking for auto updates, registering a Passport, using Windows Messenger and so on. After a while, the nagging goes away, but if you feel you might go insane before that point, run Regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/Advanced and create a DWORD value called EnableBalloonTips with a value of 0. 13. You can start up without needing to enter a user name or password. Select Run... from the start menu and type 'control userpasswords2', which will open the user accounts application. On the Users tab, clear the box for Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer, and click on OK. An Automatically Log On dialog box will appear; enter the user name and password for the account you want to use. 14. Internet Explorer 6 will automatically delete temporary files, but only if you tell it to. Start the browser, select Tools / Internet Options... and Advanced, go down to the Security area and check the box to Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed. 15. XP comes with a free Network Activity Light, just in case you can't see the LEDs twinkle on your network card. Right click on My Network Places on the desktop, then select Properties. Right click on the description for your LAN or dial-up connection, select Properties, then check the Show icon in notification area when connected box. You'll now see a tiny network icon on the right of your task bar that glimmers nicely during network traffic. 16. The Start Menu can be leisurely when it decides to appear, but you can speed things along by changing the registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/MenuShowDelay from the default 400 to something a little snappier. Like 0. 17. You can rename loads of files at once in Windows Explorer. Highlight a set of files in a window, then right click on one and rename it. All the other files will be renamed to that name, with individual numbers in brackets to distinguish them. Also, in a folder you can arrange icons in alphabetised groups by View, Arrange Icon By... Show In Groups. 18. Windows Media Player will display the cover art for albums as it plays the tracks -- if it found the picture on the Internet when you copied the tracks from the CD. If it didn't, or if you have lots of pre-WMP music files, you can put your own copy of the cover art in the same directory as the tracks. Just call it folder.jpg and Windows Media Player will pick it up and display it. 19. Windows key + Break brings up the System Properties dialogue box; Windows key + D brings up the desktop; Windows key + Tab moves through the taskbar buttons. 20. Windows XP secretly KNOWS that the average user has no idea what they are doing. Therefore, it doesn't let you do really stupid things like deleting the windows directory (at least not without spending several hours convincing it that you REALLY want to do this). Oh yeah, and internet explorer kinda sucks, get Firefox.

Microsft Surface: The NexGen Com

First Official Demo of Microsoft Surface

Wikipedia already has its article. Read the whole article if you're really curious.
Microsoft Surface is a forthcoming product from Microsoft which is developed as a software and hardware combination technology that allows a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of natural motions, hand gestures, or physical objects.

Surface is essentially a Windows Vista PC tucked inside a black table base, topped with a 30-inch touchscreen in a clear acrylic frame. Five cameras that can sense nearby objects are mounted beneath the screen. Users can interact with the machine by touching or dragging their fingertips and objects such as paintbrushes across the screen, or by setting real-world items tagged with special bar-code labels on top of it.

Surface can also respond to more than one touch at a time. During a demonstration with a reporter, Mark Bolger, the Surface Computing group's marketing director, "dipped" his finger in an on-screen paint palette, then dragged it across the screen to draw a smiley face. Then he used all 10 fingers at once to give the face a full head of hair.

In addition to recognizing finger movements, Microsoft Surface can also identify physical objects that have bar-code-like tags. Microsoft says that when a diner sets down a wine glass, for example, the table can automatically offer additional wine choices tailored to the dinner being eaten.

Prices will reportedly be $5,000 to $10,000 per unit. However Microsoft said it expects prices to drop enough to make consumer versions feasible in 3 to 5 years.

The machines, which Microsoft debuted 5/30/2007 at a technology conference in Carlsbad, Calif., are set to arrive in November in T-Mobile USA stores and properties owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. and Harrah's Entertainment Inc.
